Charles Frank “Charlie” Wiss, 90, of Port Charlotte passed away April 15, 2007. He was born December 6, 1916 in Shenandoah, PA to the late Casimiri and Stanistava (Zielinska) Wisniewski. Charlie graduated from J.W. Cooper High School in Shenandoah, PA and attended business school in Philadelphia. After having worked in the coal mines of the Shenandoah Valley, his family moved to Bridgeport, PA and Charlie served in the US Army during WWII. While on leave in New York he met his beloved “blondie”, Mildred Kathryn Yaw, whom he married August 2, 1948 in Wales Center, New York. Mom and Dad settled in Strafford, PA where Charlie owned C.F. Spencer Chemical Company, named after a wartime buddy. Charlie was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1564, The American Legion Post #668, all of Paoli, Pa. and the Masonic Lodge #581, Wayne , Pa.. He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Linda (Reinhard) Smietana of Harbor Bluffs, FL and Laurie (Rev. Matthew) Neumann of Port Charlotte; grandchildren Paul Smietana and Blake Neumann along with nieces and nephews. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be at 11:00 a.m, Monday, April 23, 2007 at Pilgrim Church with Rev. Bob Carlson officiating. Burial will be private at Restlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Disable American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45250. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
