Charles D. Oliver
June 16, 1932 – August 8, 2020
Charles Oliver passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 50 years Linda Oliver by his side in Port Charlotte, FL. He is survived by his wife Linda Oliver, daughter Dawn Oliver, son Doug Oliver, Granddaughters Hannah Oliver, and Amanda Russell, Grandson Mitchell Oliver, and his youngest brother James Oliver.
Charles was born and raised in Attalla Alabama where he enjoyed a wonderful life with his parents and many brothers and sisters. He moved to Miami and Later Hollywood in the late ’50s where he went on to start his family with wife Linda Oliver, daughter Dawn Oliver, and son Doug Oliver. Throughout his life, Charles made a lasting impression on absolutely everyone he came in contact with. It was difficult to meet him and not instantly become his friend. His positive outlook on life was the result of his enduring faith in God which was instilled in him by his parents. He was kind, fun-loving, hardworking, and had an amazing ability to make people laugh with his quick and often dry wit. Ollie was one of the original members of the Miami Springs Power Boat Club where he enjoyed fishing and fellowship on his days off. He later became an active member of Pembroke Pines Optimist Club as his children grew up around the various sports programs.
Charles worked in the printing industry throughout his career, until he retired and began his second career as the Greeter for Bass Pro Shops in Dania Beach, FL. He loved his retirement job and the entire Bass Pro family. On his days off, he enjoyed bringing his kids and grandchildren into the store to show his pride to his colleagues and friends. He passed on his love of fishing and the outdoors to his kids and grandchildren. He was also a big fan of the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, and Auburn Tigers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Katie Oliver, sisters Corrine, Winnie and Helen, and brothers Joe and Billy.
His family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 5th beginning at 6:00 pm at The Heritage Oaks Clubhouse patio. There will be time to reflect on his life and enjoy a light dinner with music, refreshments, and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a donation to Tidewell Hospice or a charity of your liking.
