Ben Czyl

Benedict "Ben" Czyl, of Punta Gorda passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012. He was born October 24, 1928 in Harvey, Illinois to Michael and Lucy (Tobolski) Czyl. Ben attended Thornton Jr College and graduated from Southern Illinois University. He served in the US Army, where he made several lifetime friends. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans John J. Pershing Post #39, Harvey, IL and served as an officer on the local, state and national levels. Ben worked for Allstate Insurance as a Claim Representative and was a member of the Northeastern Illinois Adjusters Association and had held the offices of secretary and president. In 1987, Ben and his wife, Marilynn moved from Blue Island, IL to River Forest Village, where Ben served three terms on the Board of Directors as President. Ben was a member of Port Charlotte Golf Club, Punta Gorda Elks Lodge #2606, Knights of Columbus Council #8074, Punta Gorda and Sacred Heart Catholic Church as Head Usher and Lector. Ben will be greatly missed by his sister, Sister Mary Beata (Harriet Czyl) of Grand Prairie, TX; step-children, Joyce Fox of Joliet, IL, David Schultz of Orland Park, IL, Beverly Foltman of St. John, IN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilynn, parents, sister, Lucy Denison and. brothers, Joe, Frank and Stanley. A gathering will be held 5 to 7 pm, Friday, April 20, 2012 at Larry Taylor Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial mass will be at 1pm, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
