Ann Barnes, 89, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away May 5, 2017 after years of declining health at Life Care Center of Punta Gorda. She was born December 2, 1927 to Hervey and Ethelyn MacVicar in Worcester MA; she was the first of three sisters. Ann earned a Master's degree in Recreation from the University of Massachusetts. She was on the staff at Cortland State Teacher's College in upstate New York when she met her husband Grant. A born organizer she ran Dwight Eisenhower's Western Massachusetts presidential campaign. She concluded her political career working for New York State Senator Hugh Farley. Past President of Junior League of Pittsfield, MA, Superintendent of Sunday School and President of the Women's Guild at First Reformed Church of Scotia, NY. Ann was a devoted volunteer. She was an avid gardener, intrepid sailor, loving sister and a kind and thoughtful friend. She is survived by her loving husband, Grant; sister, Twinkie "Alex" Henderson; brother and sisters-in-law, Graham (Jacquie) Barnes, Ruth Barnes and Joe Keith. She was especially close to her goddaughter and niece Sara (Matt) Winship; nieces, Lyn Keith and Kathryn Gollub and nephews, JP Henderson, Jeff Barnes, George Keith and John Keith. Ann was predeceased by her sister, Sally Keith and brother-in-law, Charles Barnes Service will be private. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
