Anabel Aitken Newkirk

Anabel Aitken Newkirk, 72, of Punta Gorda passed away June 8, 2007. She was born October 28, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio to David Allen and Jean L. (Milans) Aitken. Anabel played piano and sang, and won several parts in theatrical plays at the Island Center in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. She and her husband Bill owned Caribbean Surveys in the 1960's. When her sons were in their teens, she helped organize and coach for the St. Croix Swimming Assn. Her involvement also included photographing and reporting on major sports events for the St. Croix Avis. After relocating to Punta Gorda in the 1980's, she began educating herself on antiques and their value, which she parleyed into a successful business. Anabel will be greatly missed by her sons, Steve(Donna) and Scott(Karen), and Lisa Catanach Newkirk Svarczkopf; grandchildren, Bill, Steven, Nichole, Lauren, and Michael. Anabel was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and son, Bill. A celebration of Anabel’s life will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Punta Gorda Chapel of Larry Taylor Funeral Services.
