Alvah L. Rogers, Sr., 99, Port Charlotte, died Aug 28, 2006. He was born Dec 14, 1906, in Paragould, Ark. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M in 1934 and served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in WWII. His service with the Bureau of Indian Affairs as an Extension Agent & Credit officer for the Five Civilized Tribes in Oklahoma and later with the Indian reservations in Nespelem, WA & Lapwai, ID spanned a period of American Indian history little known today.
After his government retirement at age 62, Mr. Rogers opened Rogers Realty in Clarkston, WA. He & his wife, Christine, traveled the globe with extended visits to 68 countries. They were in China when diplomatic relations with America were established. He retired from real estate at age 83, but they continued their travels to Europe & the Far East until he was 94.
Mr. Rogers will be greatly missed by his son & daughter-in-law, 'Capt. Al' and Carole Rogers of Punta Gorda, FL and granddaughter, Dr. Nicole Rogers, of New Orleans, LA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine, in 2003.
Private services will be held at a later date to commemorate his 100th birthday.
