Alvah L. Rogers, AKA Capt. Al, died peacefully on April 12, 2018 at Hospice House in Port Charlotte, FL. His wife of 56 years Carole, nee Goplerud, and his daughter Nicole were at his side. Al was born in Muskogee, OK on October 28, 1939. His parents, Al, Sr. and Christine Rogers predeceased him. He attended high school in Miami, OK and Coulee Dam, WA and graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle with a degree in Political Science. His 22 year career in the USAF was spent largely as a China specialist. While stationed in Anchorage, AK in 1967, he and Carole took sailing lessons and began a lifelong love of sailboats and the sea. Upon Als service retirement, they bought Moon Dragon, their third sailboat, and moved aboard with Nicole for a four year adventure that landed them in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda in 1988. Al became a Realtor with RE/MAX Harbor Realty, retiring in 2006. He was an active member of the Punta Gorda Boat Club and continued his love of sailing to the day he died. He was instrumental in organizing the Charlotte Harbor Christmas Lighted Boat Parade and liked nothing better than the camaraderie of lots of friends getting together to decorate Moon Dragon. He was the ultimate extrovert, known for his interesting stories and sense of humor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice House, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952 or your charity of choice.
