Wayne B. Goff, 78, of Punta Gorda passed away July 16, 2016. He was the son of Woodrow and Teany Goff, born June 10, 1938 in Charlotte Harbor, FL. Wayne was a fourth generation descendant of the Goff family who were original settlers of Englewood. A 1957 graduate, he was class president and played football, basketball and baseball at Charlotte High School; he remained an active CHS supporter throughout his lifetime. Wayne graduated from the University of Florida, College of Planning, Design, and Construction. He began his career with E. I. DuPont, then formed Goff Construction, Inc. in 1960; it is Charlotte County's first State Certified Class "A" general contractor. Wayne was Builder/Developer of Punta Gorda Isles (1970-1984), and owner and President of Church Growth & Building Consultants. He has donated his services as general contractor for many churches, the Performing Arts Center, Habitat for Humanity Punta Gorda, and most recently for the construction of the Southwest Florida Vietnam Memorial Wall in Punta Gorda and Punta Gorda History Center. He was instrumental in advancing Port Charlotte "U", an adult education school for retired residents, into the Cultural Center of Charlotte County as it is today. Wayne's love for, and contributions to, this area are innumerable. He has served with First Baptist Churches of Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte, Peace River Baptist Association, Florida Baptist Convention, Southern Baptist Convention, Economic Development Council, Punta Gorda Rotary Club, Englewood Area Historical Museum, Charlotte High School Boosters, and Tidewell Hospice. But, more than these things, Wayne loved his Lord and spending time with his family. Wayne will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Donna; son, Keith A. Goff; daughters, Karen (Joey) Ford and Karla (David) Goff Kreick; grandsons, Jensen Desguin and Connor Ford; niece, Kristin Goff; sisters-in-law, MaryLou Goff and Sandra Lewis; and sisters, Joyce Smith, Sylvia Brown, and Mary Katherine Barrett. He is reunited in Heaven with his granddaughter, Khloe Kreick. The service in celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at New Day Christian Church. Memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 1144 Veronica Street, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
