Robert Walker

November 5, 1925 — March 19, 2009

Robert "Bob" Walker died on March 19, 2009 at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, FL. He had been a resident of Punta Gorda for the past 19 years. Bob was born on November 5th, 1925 in Indiana, Pennsylvania and attended Indiana High School. He received his B.S. from Springfield College, and a Masters in Education from Florida Atlantic University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Torpedoman First Class in the European and Pacific Theatres of war. Bob spent his entire career in education and coaching. He was the Headmaster of the Ransom School in Coconut Grove, FL from 1969 1974 and retired from Bridgton Academy in N. Bridgton, ME after serving as Headmaster for 17 years. Bob was an accomplished and respected football coach and authored 4 books on strategy and coaching, one of which remains the largest selling football text ever. In addition, he was a past president of the Maine Association of Independent Schools, and was a member of the Commission on Independent Schools and New England Association of Schools & Colleges. He was an avid jazz fan and enjoyed playing jazz organ and listening to music. He will be greatly missed by his four children, four step children, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grand children and sister, JoAnn Walker of Miami Lakes. Bob was predeceased in death by his first wife of 45 years, Elaine Pitts, and his second wife Susie Voth. A private service will be held.
