Robert "Bobby" Mendillo, 77, of Punta Gorda left us to begin his final journey home on June 8, 2014 with his loving wife, Barbara and two angels, nurse Mary and daughter Laura by his side. He was born March 5, 1937 in Fall River, MA to Vincent and Dorothy Mendillo. After the Air Force, he migrated to Wisconsin and became an independent trucker. His passion for boating brought him to Punta Gorda, FL, where he and Barbara built a home in the Isles in 1994. He loved people, cars, boats, cowboy movies, and chicken dinners at the Elks Club where he was a member. Bobby is survived by his wife, Barbara; sister, Marilyn; step-children, Laura, Robert and Jeffrey along with the many people he touched with his stories as he held court at gatherings. They will smile and say "I remember him when...". To commemorate his "sailing off into the sunset" a memorial mass will be celebrated on Wed., June 18, 2014 at 11am at St. John XXIII Catholic Church in Fort Myers. Inurnment will be Friday, June 20, 2014 at 1pm at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice or St. John XXIII Catholic Church.
