Josie Dare Glass, 76, of Punta Gorda passed away January 28, 2009. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Verna (Johnson) Holbrook, born February 27, 1932 in Traphill, NC. Josie spent her career as an operator for Southern Bell before retiring. She came to Punta Gorda from Homestead, FL in 1978 and attended Eastside Baptist Church. Josie had a wide variety of interests which ranged from Shirley Temple movies to scary movies, playing the organ, finding bargains at flea markets, and playing with her "granddog," Riley. She enjoyed going out to breakfast and Friday nights at Golden Corral; her favorite foods included corn bread, hot peppers, and spicy foods. Josie also enjoyed her collection of Praying Hands. Of all her interests, she most enjoyed caring for her pride and joy - her house and yard. Josie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and sister and will be greatly missed by her husband of 30 years, Richard; daughter Cindy Hurley; brothers, BJ and Doug; and sisters, Joan, Dolores, and Gayle. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gary; and brothers, Cecil, Dwight, and Lamar. The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 am Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Eastside Baptist Church in Punta Gorda, with the service in celebration of Josie's life following at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Eastside Baptist Church. To express condolences to the family, please sign the online guest book.
