Jack T. Barham Sr., 88, of Port Charlotte passed away in his home on January 28, 2009. He was born on July 21, 1920 in Winston-Salem N.C. to Rev. and Mrs. Joseph T. Barham. Jack was a Captain in the United States Army 101st Signal Battalion during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. Jack received a Battlefield Commission and was awarded a Purple Heart and Silver Star Decoration for action in the Philippines and Kwajalein Island. After the war Jack returned to his home in North Carolina and was employed by Southern Bell Telephone Company until 1960 when he joined International Telephone and Telegraph Company as a project manager in Bangkok, Thailand. His travels with ITT took him to Egypt, Vietnam, Iran, Panama, The Virgin Islands, and Trinidad. He also lived and worked in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nebraska, and California, as well as North Carolina, Tennessee, and of course Florida. In 1978 he went to work for Ford Aerospace Aeronutronics as Manager of Field Operations in Tehran, Iran. Jack retired from United Telephone Company of Florida in 1984, and then accepted assignment as Project Manager with Republic Telcom in Trinidad, West Indies, and later served as President of Republic Telcom in the British West Indies. Jack will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Helen M. Query Barham of North Carolina, two daughters, Julia Apple of Satellite Beach, FL and Kelly (Bryan) Magiera of Port Charlotte, FL and a son, Jackson T. (Julie) Barham Jr. of Ocala, FL. 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Abundant Life Assembly of God 1500 Cooper Street, Punta Gorda.
